As a general rule Morgan dollar coins with a mintage below 1 million are considered rare and worth more than those with mintage over 1 million. However, rarity of Morgans also depends on condition and other factors.

Rare Morgan dollars tend to sell for several hundred dollars each in Extra Fine or better shape. Keep in mind that even common dates can be worth several thousand dollars in uncirculated condition, especially in MS-65 or MS-70. Depending on a year, Morgan silver dollar can worth only $15 in Fine grade, but will be selling for $5000 in MS-65 just because there are very few uncirculated coins in that year. This difference in value based solely on the condition serves as a reminder why grading correctly is so important.
